Fashion into the New Year

Ladies- Pull out the sequined heels and cocktail dresses, we're heading into a new year. Not only would Coco's basic black dress be gorgeous, it also keeps every woman classy. Although, brights are back, so don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and into a show-stopping color. But remember- new year- new you, so don't wear something you'll regret.

Dear Christopher Kane,

Yes, you are getting some of your ideas right for spring 2012, but oh-so-much wrong...
Yellow is in- but let’s tone it down...
Mixing patters is smart- but not two completely different/hideous things.
The pants- are they see-through? And sorry, but the high-waist went out back in the beginning of the summer of 2012
The top- looks like she’s growing vegetables
I'm concerned that you can see her shoes THROUGH her pants...I don't think that's appropriate…
I like the effort…just you’re trying too hard to get all of the styles into one outfit…
This is defiantly an outfit to skip…

With the winter days approaching quickly, bringing out your Ann Taylor, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger sweaters isn't a bad idea. The varsity cardigans are still fashionably acceptable, and paired up with a pair of knee-high brown leather Aldo boots is the perfect combo. Don’t forget your Free People earmuffs for the chilly days.

The leather industry is coming back and in ways taking charge over UGG. Sure they’re good at keeping your feet warm, but do you really want to carry a cinderblock around on your feet? An average fashionista has enough in her bag to weigh her down, she doesn’t need a boot to do that too. Aldo understands…and with their new boots in different heights, colors, and styles, any girl will be satisfied.

Rosy cheeks are back! Calm it down with the summer shades and don’t forget your blush. The natural make up look is still in so props to the girls who have mastered it.  Sparkles, sparkles, and a few more sparkles are in for your eye shadows and mascara, don’t you dare sprinkle them on your face though, way too much, let’s try and look classy here people.
Don’t forget your smile! It makes the outfitJ

A fashion icon, and the most important person in the fashion world.

Gabrielle Chanel, more commonly known as “Coco” Chanel was born in France, August 19, 1883. She grew up in a small house on a narrow street with a rather poor lifestyle. Her mother had died when she was young and her father left her family when she was only twelve years old.  She grew up with two sisters and two brothers, and was sent to an orphanage and lived there for six years. From a young age she knew she wasn’t going to be another housewife with a tight corset and multiple petticoats.
In the early 1900's she introduced the fashion world to a suit for women. This liberated women from the dreadful corsets and petticoats that were common at this time. She stated that women should have “the possibility to laugh and eat, without necessarily having to faint.” Along with the woman's suit, she started the craze for flapper hats, and the bobbed haircut. She didn’t have much money at a young age so she used inexpensive jersey to make her designs, the cloth that was used for men’s clothing. She got many of her ideas from men’s clothing, seeing them as an inspiration. She went for more of a relaxed feel which was seen to be uncommon in these days. She stated "I make fashion women can live in, breath in, feel comfortable in and look younger in." She was also the inventor of the idea of a “little black dress” which is still used in today’s world. She is known to be the first designer to name a perfume after herself, which is seen throughout the fragrance industry.
Without Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, who knows what the world would be like today. Coco Chanel broke the mold in women’s fashion and gave the opportunity for them to express themselves. She introduced women into a unique style which is seen everywhere today. Coco wanted to make women more modern and give them the opportunity to stand among the men in the working world, and a suit gave women an opportunity to do so.  Gabrielle Chanel died in 1971 at the age of 87.

You can't rehearse

Either you're interested, or you’re not. The fashion world isn't for everyone, and personal style can't be defined or judged. But to those who feel like I do, the only way to begin is to jump in with both feet. To start with, decide what you like, and what repulses you. Occasionally there is an in-between in how you feel about a piece, but maybe you're just not analyzing enough. Designers tend to have a style they continue throughout all their lines, so do your research, and choose your top three.

Six Designers who are well known and have made an impression in the fashion world (you need to know this):
       Kate Spade
       Anne Sui
       Tommy Hilfiger
       Ralph Lauren
       Betsy Johnson
       Vera Wang

If you don't know at least three of these names...I'm concerned on why you're interested in fashion to begin with.

Things you need to know about being interested in this world:
You will be judged on your style (since you're an expert and all...). People will ask your advice. You need to be critically honest about how something looks on someone, and give them other options. You need to do your research and stay up with the trends. You need to remember you're not a runway model, so therefore you don't need to wear a fur coat and thigh-high boots every day. You need to be determined and keep with your beliefs; don’t let the critics get to you.

You are you, know your style, and embrace it.

Me, Myself, and Prada

Small town life, one fashionesque store near by, and even that doesn't count...Coming from a small town in Maine, I can't say I have much fashion exposure in my every day life. Although, personal style, and influence from the new upcoming fashions has helped me make it through; without the privledge of having Louis Vutton right down the road. I will give insight on how I see the fashion world, but also where I think they're going completely wrong. To me, fashion isn't what's walking down the runway, it whats you make it, and who wears it right.
